The 2015 edition of the Breakbulk conference in Antwerp was a resounding success, with UAL clearly emerging as a leader in the industry, proving once again that UAL is a name to be trusted in the market.
Every year we see growing interest from participants in our services and our sailing regions. At the end of the busy day, our booth has become a place where our clients and other participants can enjoy quietly a Belgian beer and where commercial networking under the participants takes place. This year K5 had a central place in our booth. Frieda Ndong and Jean-Marie Chefson, our team from K5, had prepared a special 3D presentation allowing the visitors to see all the operations that take place at our terminal in Malabo, K5 Freeport Oil Centre, our wholly owned port offering a comprehensive hub ecosystem for the West African oil and gas industry and wherever your cargo lies around the world.
Interesting in this year’s exhibition was the high attendance of UAL Group members. Annalize Krause from our office in Cape Town; this year joined our commercial team at the BB conference. We also had the pleasure to welcome our colleague Brittany Clark from our Houston office and Amine Bouregba from Paris. As always we could rely on the participation of Koen Van Belle from UNAMAR, our agent in Antwerp, Raoul Costas from PortMar in Portugal and Andy Thorn and his team from Kestrel, our agents in Aberdeen. A clear message was conveyed by UAL that joined expertise was available for the coming 3 days.
The second day was a very busy day for our commercial team lead by Harald Maas, assisted by Edwin Mirck, Ilona Kentie all from the head office in Rotterdam and John Clark from Aberdeen. After an excellent cup of coffee prepared by the professional barista at the booth of the Port of Rotterdam, we all were ready to confront the 7000 plus participants at the conference.
In the evening we were able to continue the networking with a dinner of more than 70 guests in the restauant ‘t Zilte on the ninth floor of the MAS. The guests could not only enjoy the beautiful view of Antwerp but also a standing dinner with a 2 Michelin star allure and an excellent glass of wine.
The evening ended with the traditional meeting at “Café den Engel” on the Grote Markt in Antwerp
The last day of the conference was mainly reserved for meetings with our agents.
There was no doubt among the participants that the low oil prices will have a direct affect on the industry but at the same time it was also noticeable that everyone present showed more professional commitment to overcome this dip, each in its own specialized field.
We cannot conclude this flash without a word of thanks to Koen Van Belle, and Caroline Spetter for their logistic support to our stand.
To all our customers and employees we would like to say “until next year and sail safely.”
